Course Description

This skill set reflects the skills required to provide support to a person to self-administer medication. This skill set has been endorsed by the industry as suitable for individuals who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area involving the provision of direct client care or support. This skill set covers topics such as basic anatomy and physiology, physical assistance skills and techniques, including incident reporting and standard documentation.

Course Delivery

DP Training will provide training and assessment of learners in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and meets the skill requirements for each Unit of Competency. This will meet the Assessment Conditions as described in the training package.

This course is delivered via a Blended delivery mode. This course will be delivered predominately using Distance Education delivery with learners participating in scheduled Practical simulated workshops, to demonstrate that skills have been learnt and assessed in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions.

  • Online delivery for the 2 units of competency through the E-Learning system (We recommend allocation of 7 hours per week for 3 weeks to complete the theory)
  • Upon completion of theory, a 3-hour practical simulation via Zoom. In addition to the simulations , students will need to complete a part of the practical component at their workplace under the supervision of a RN, Registered EN or Registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health practitioner.
  • Trainers/Assessors being available Monday – Friday between 8:30am – 4:30pm AEST through email and/or telephone
  • Self-paced (up to 6 months to complete)

Credit Transfer

DP Training accepts and provides credit transfers to learners whom have authenticated and verified VET transcripts and AQF certification documentation issued by another Registered Training Organisation.

Entry Requirements

It is an enrolment requirement that prior to commencing your training in this skill set with DP Training that you are an Existing worker in the Community Services and Health industry, or are a parent or unpaid carer of an NDIS participant, and that you hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area involving the provision of direct client care or support.

This skill set is suitable for people working in various care and support roles in the community services industry who wish to develop skills in supporting people to self-administer medication.

In addition, the target learner must:

  • be over 15 years of age, who have finished or left secondary school
  • undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Skills Indicator assessment questionnaire
  • have technological skills to undertake computer/online work and have
  • access to a computer and software with the following minimum specifications
  • Microsoft Windows XP, or later, or Mac OS X or above; Microsoft Office or equivalent and Adobe Acrobat Reader/Adobe Flash Player and up to date internet browser
Enrolment Requirements

Please be advised the following documents will be required to be submitted with your enrolment:

  • Proof of ID: Colour copy of Passport or Driver’s Licence.
  • Unique Student Identification Number (USI)
  • Colour copy of Certificates and Statement Results for any previously attained or partially completed qualifications completed in or recognised in Australia.
  • Evidence of current employment in the sector (payslip or employment contract).
  • Evidence of Certificate III in Individual Support (or superseded qualification).

Fees & Funding

Fee For Service

  • A Full Fee paying student – total course fee $485

A $250 deposit is required prior to commencing training and assessment, with fortnightly and monthly payment plans to pay the remaining fees.
